Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces indictment in the death of a 13-year-old Norwood girl

Ohio law prevents Prosecutor from seeking the Death Penalty

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of Gordon Franklin for the murder of his 13-year-old daughter. Franklin of Norwood now faces life in prison. No death specification was available to the Grand Jury.

Franklin , 39, was indicted for aggravated murder for the attack that took place in the morning hours of October 13, 2005. Franklin beat his daughter, Danielle, with a golf club while she was sleeping. Danielle’s mother found the body around 1 pm.

Gordon Franklin was arrested at Eastgate Mall that night after he was spotted by a security guard. He is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $1 million dollar bond.

Prosecutor Deters said today, "This is an obvious case where the death penalty would be appropriate, but not available under current state law. We will do all we can to ensure Franklin never leaves prison, which is all we can do in this case."
