A Hamilton County Grand Jury returns an indictment in the murder of local activist Kabaka Oba

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of Howard Beatty of Cincinnati for the murder of local activist Michael Bailey, AKA Kabaka Oba.

Beatty, 52, has been indicted on one count of Aggravated Murder and one count of Violation of Protection Order for the attack that occurred April 12, 2006. Shortly after Mr. Bailey finished addressing Cincinnati City Council, he was shot several times outside of City Hall. Beatty surrendered to police later that evening. Michael Bailey was transported to University Hospital where he died from his injuries on Saturday April 15, 2006.

Beatty is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $1 million bond. If convicted on all charges, he faces life in prison.
