Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters and City of Montgomery Police Chief Don Simpson urge the public to voice their opposition to the possible parole of Greg Cooper

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters and Montgomery Police Chief Don Simpson are asking the public to join them in voicing their opposition to the possible parole of convicted bank robber Greg Cooper.

Cooper, formerly of Loveland, and his co-defendant Wayne Cornett robbed the Society National Bank in Montgomery in December, 1989. Cooper brandished a revolver as he ordered the three tellers not to sound the alarm or they would be killed.

As they fled the bank, Cooper was approached by Montgomery Police Officer Mike Young. Cooper fired shots at Officer Young striking him in the chest and hand. Fortunately, Officer Young was wearing a bullet proof vest, although reconstructive surgery was required for the serious injuries he sustained to his hand.

In August, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority will be considering Cooper for parole. Prosecutor Deters urges the community to voice their opposition to Coopers possible parole by visiting his web site at HCPROS.ORG and clicking on the parole watch section. Prosecutor Deters commented, "We need the publics help to ensure that violent criminals like Greg Cooper serve the maximum time possible behind bars and are not released to commit more crimes in our community."
