Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces the indictment of Mark Pickens in Pendleton triple homicide

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of former downtown resident Mark Pickens (dob 12-5-89) in the June 1, 2009 shooting deaths of 19-year-old Noelle Washington, 9-month-old Anthony Jones III and 3-year-old Sha'Railyn Wright.

Pickens is charged with 1 count of Rape (F1), 3 counts of Aggravated Murder (Special Felony) and 2 counts of Weapon Under Disability (F3) in the 6 count indictment returned against him. If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of the death penalty.

All of the victims were shot in Miss Washington's apartment at 421 E. 13th Street in downtown Cincinnati. Pickens was Miss Washington's ex-boyfriend.

Pickens also faces the possibility of 31 years in prison under an earlier indictment on Felonious Assault, Attempted Murder and Weapon Under Disability charges in the March 27, 2009 shooting of Anthony J. Jones. The victim in that case is the father of the 9-month-old victim in today's indictment.

Prosecutor Deters commented, "This grotesque act of senseless violence against this young woman and those two babies demands society's ultimate penalty. These weren't stray gunshots that killed the three. All were purposely executed."
