Joseph T. Deters announces indictment of John Strutz for the murder of Kristan Strutz

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the Grand Jury's Indictment of John P. Strutz for the August 2009 Murder of his wife, Kristan.

In addition to the 2 counts of Murder (Special Felony), Strutz was also indicted for 1 count of Gross Abuse of a Corpse (Felony 5-6-12 months) and 1 count of Tampering with Evidence (Felony 3-1-5 years) The count of Tampering with Evidence in this Indictment deals with the defendant's attempting to dispose of items used in the dismemberment. Murder carries a life imprisonment penalty. The case was not eligible for the death penalty.

Strutz reported his wife missing from their Delhi home on Saturday, August 15th. During the course of the investigation, human remains were found at the residence. The Hamilton County Coroner has identified them as those of Kristan Strutz.

Deters commented, "After he killed the mother of his children, he then dismembered her in an attempt to avoid detection. It is unfortunate that this disgusting act does not permit us to seek the death penalty."
