Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces indictment in shooting of LaSalle student

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of Dierres Lee (DOB 4-5-93) in the February 24, 2013 shooting death of Justin Brown, who would have graduated from LaSalle High School this spring.  Lee is now charged with 2 alternative counts of Murder (Special Felony) and 2 alternative counts of Felonious Assault (Felony 2).  All counts contain firearm specifications.  If convicted of the charges, Lee faces the possibility of life in prison.

On February 24th, Brown and three friends drove to the area of 1700 Carll Street in Fairmount at approximately 8:30 p.m. to buy drugs from Lee.  They used counterfeit money to buy the marijuana.  After Lee sold them the drugs, and as they drove away, Lee fired into the vehicle striking Brown in the back of the neck.  His friends took Brown to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.  He was later transferred to University Hospital where he died.

Lee was quickly identified as the shooter and arrested the next day at his father’s home.

At this time, no other charges are anticipated in this case.

Prosecutor Deters commented, “This is another sad case of a young person dying because of drugs.  Drug dealing is a dangerous business for both the buyer and seller and, unfortunately, it claims too many young lives.
