Hamilton County Prosecutor announces indictment in illegal voting cases

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of three Hamilton County residents for Illegal Voting in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 3599.12 (A) (1).  Indicted today were Carmen Lockhart (DOB 7-16-49), Bernus Charmont (DOB 7-21-67) and Jean Gobeil (DOB 5-29-53).  All three defendants are charged with one count of Illegal Voting (Felony 4).  If convicted of the charge, they face the possibility of 18 months in prison.

Lockhart, Charmont and Gobeil are all in this country legally but they are non-citizens and, therefore, ineligible to vote.  All three are charged with voting in the November 2012 general election.

These charges started with an investigation by John Husted, Ohio Secretary of State, who then referred the matter to Mike DeWine, Ohio Attorney General, for further investigation.  The Ohio Attorney General referred the matter to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s office for possible prosecution.  That referral resulted in today’s indictments.  No further indictments of this kind are anticipated in Hamilton County.
