Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces indictment of former Scarlet Oaks teacher

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of Dan Knecht (DOB 6/12/71) for 6 counts of Sexual Battery (Felony 3).    Knecht is a former Scarlet Oaks culinary teacher who is charged with Sexual Battery for having sex with 3 students.  If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of 30 years in prison.

Also charged in today’s indictment is Carly Skwir (DOB 12/14/93).  Skwir is charged with 2 counts of Obstruction of Justice (Felony 5) and 2 counts of Tampering with Evidence (Felony 3).  If convicted of all charges, she faces the possibility of 8 years in prison.  Skwir was a former student and acquaintance of Knecht’s.

Knecht was employed as a teacher at the Sharonville Scarlet Oaks starting sometime in 2011. His contract was not renewed after the 2014 school year.

An investigation into this matter started in January 2014 when a student reported to school authorities that another student was having a sexual relationship with Knecht.  That investigation resulted in today’s indictment.

The incidents in today’s indictment happened at various locations including Scarlet Oaks and private residences.

Skwir is charged with Tampering with Evidence and Obstruction of Justice for instructing 2 of the 3 victims in this case to delete incriminating evidence regarding Knecht from various social media accounts.

Prosecutor Deters commented, “It is disturbing to have yet another teacher- - this is approximately 4 in the last six months -- charged with having sexual relationships with his students.  This behavior crosses a very definite line and should not be tolerated.”
