Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces indictment of brother who killed his two sisters

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces the indictment of Matthew Hayden (DOB 10/28/93).  Hayden is charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Murder and 1 count of Attempted Aggravated Murder (Felony 1).  If convicted of all charges, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hayden is charged with the October 21st shooting deaths of his sisters, 16-year-old Sarah Hayden and 17-year-old Elizabeth Hayden.   Both girls were pronounced dead at the scene.  He is also charged with the shooting of his friend 17-year-old Joshua Hacker.  Hacker is currently recovering at Children’s Hospital.  Hayden shot the three victims with a 9mm Beretta handgun at approximately 3:00 a.m. while they were sitting in a vehicle parked in the driveway of the Hayden residence at 3455 Banning Road, Colerain Township. 

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Green Township Police Department assisted the Colerain Township Police Department with the investigation.

Matthew Hayden’s attorney has requested an emergency competency evaluation for Mr. Hayden.

Prosecutor Deters commented, “I can’t imagine what these families are going through.  Two young women’s lives are wasted and another has been seriously injured at the hands of their brother and friend. “
