Hamilton County Judge Megan Shanahan sentences father who killed 2-year-old to the death penalty

Today, Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas Judge Megan Shanahan sentenced Glen Bates (DOB 6/27/82) to the death penalty.

Andrea Bradley (DOB 9/24/86) and Bates were charged with the murder of their two-year-old daughter, Glenara Bates.

Bradley took the unconscious victim to Children’s Hospital on March 29, 2015. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival. The victim had been severely beaten with injuries such as bruises, bite marks, belt marks, missing teeth, burns, broken ribs, numerous lacerations and head trauma.

The Hamilton County Coroner ruled Glenara’s death a homicide due to starvation and blunt force trauma to the head.

After a 7 day jury trial, the jury recommended the death penalty for Bates. Today Judge Shanahan followed their recommendation and imposed the death penalty.

Bradley is set for possible plea on 10/18/16. Her six other children are either in the custody of relatives or the Hamilton County Department of Jobs & Family Services.

Prosecutor Deters commented, “This man is a murderer who needs to pay for what he did to this innocent baby. My heart breaks for this little girl. She died in one of the most horrific ways imaginable.”
