Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announces the indictment of 10 people involved in a counterfeit check scam
A Hamilton County grand jury indicted 10 people involved in a counterfeit check ring in 2006. Two separate indictments were released today.
Rick Brown, Maurice Jorden, Kevin Whitehead, Anthony Beavers and Anthony Jordan are named in a 31 count indictment including forgery, possessing criminal tools and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
Anthony Jordan printed counterfeit Greg Hartman Clerk of Courts checks and State of Ohio Betty Montgomery checks valued under $500.00. The defendants cashed the checks at local stores and gas stations. Local stores suffered losses close to $10,000. Investigators also recovered Hamilton County Sheriff counterfeit checks on Jordan’s computer.
In a separate case, Monica Owens, Orlando McSwain, Aaron Rosemond, Ezzie Nelson, and Antonio Hayes are named in a 16 count indictment including forgery and theft.
Hayes printed counterfeit Greg Hartmann Clerk of Court checks ranging in value from $1,000 to $ 5,000. The defendants deposited the checks into their personal bank accounts at Fifth Third Bank and Cinco Credit Union and then withdrew the money. Fifth Third Bank’s losses total close to $12,000. Cinco Credit Union estimated losses were $ 8,300.
