The nightmare endured by Poole’s victims cannot be overstated. On a Sunday night like any other, between 4 and 5:00 a.m., a mother and her 12-year-old daughter were jolted awake by a stranger who had broken into their apartment through a window. That unwelcome stranger was Poole—drunk and high after partying hard for his birthday.

Once inside the apartment, Poole went to the mother’s bedroom and demanded money from her. When she indicated that she did not have any money, he proceeded to beat her. After beating her, Poole attempted to rape her. He lay on top of her and groped her breast and vagina. When she tried to scream and fight him off, he punched her in the face, which caused her to be covered in blood.

Alerted by her mother’s screams, the daughter went to see what was wrong. Upon seeing the child, Poole kicked her in the stomach and instructed her to go back to her room. The child had no choice but to comply. Poole then went to the child’s room and raped her. The mother tried to stop him, but Poole overpowered her. Poole threatened to kill both victims with a knife and gun. Poole went back and forth between the mother’s room and daughter’s room and ultimately raped the child four times.

The mother managed to call the police for help. When the mother heard footsteps outside her building, she made it out hoping police had arrived to put an end to the misery. As she came around the side of her building, a police officer shot her in the abdomen thinking she was the perpetrator. Poole escaped the apartment but was quickly apprehended by police and arrested for his heinous crimes.

Poole’s incomprehensible cruelty irrevocably impacted his victims, their family, and the city of Cincinnati at-large. Poole’s victims not only lost their physical and emotional agencies on this night, but also their senses of safety and trust. No passage of time will return them to that which they were before.

Given all this, it would be highly inappropriate and against the interest of justice to grant Poole early release. This office is strongly opposed and under no circumstances should Poole be granted any type of early release.
