Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announces indictment in music venue mass shooting

Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich today announced the indictments of two men in connection with the March 1 mass shooting at Riverfront Live in the East End that left nine people injured.

Franeek Cobb, 24, of Bond Hill and Derrick Long, 29, of Spring Grove Village, were indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury for their roles in the incident.

Cobb is charged with one count of attempted murder, 18 counts of felonious assault, and one count each of inducing panic, illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment, carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons while under disability.

Long is charged with one count each of illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon, and having weapons while under disability.

Both men entered the crowded music venue with firearms despite being legally prohibited from possessing them due to prior convictions. The two men had a longstanding dispute. At close range, Cobb shot Long. In self-defense, Long returned fire. Eight bystanders in the crowd were struck. Hundreds of people were in the area as the gunfire erupted, and people fled the venue.

“Possessing a gun and bringing it into a crowded music venue and firing it is not only criminally illegal, but also a violent breach of our community safety,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. “We are fortunate that no one was killed. That kind of violence has no place in Hamilton County. My office will hold them fully accountable.”

Cobb faces up to 98 years in prison. Long faces up to 13 and a half years in prison.
