Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announces indictments in street racing case

Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announced today the indictment of five people on charges of street racing and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

The men are part of a group of more than 60 people who have been riding dirt bikes and ATVs throughout the city doing burnouts and wheelies. Cincinnati Police have attempted to stop the group several times as they ran red lights, blocked traffic and rode on sidewalks. These charges relate to an Aug. 23 incident on Reading Road.

Officers since then identified the defendants through investigatory work.

Today’s indictment brings the total number of people charged in the incident to 15 and the investigation is continuing.

Those indicted today:

Jarrett Prater, 22, of Hamiton

Joshua Ludlum, 20, of Mount Washington

Dartanion Battle, 24, of Avondale

Devin Metts, 26, of Sycamore Township

Isaiah Klein, 24, of West Price Hill

The additional defendants were indicted on the same charges on Sept. 10 in case B2504815.

The five men chronicled their activity on social media and in cell phone conversations. Police collected more than 4,000 video files related to the case.

The five men face up to five years in prison on the felony charge of failure to comply with a police order and up to 180 days in the jail on the misdemeanor street racing charge.

“Throughout the summer, I have heard numerous complaints about dangerous street takeovers like this,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. “This is not a game. These reckless actions endanger not only the riders, but everyone around them. My office will continue to hold those responsible accountable.”
