Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announces Indictments in drowning death of infant

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announced the indictments of Degary Burbridge and Kiara Nettles in the drowning death of their 5-month-old child.

Burbridge, 19 and Nettles, 19, of West Price Hill, were indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and child endangering in the May 16 death. The couple left the infant alone in the bathroom where the infant was placed in a baby bathtub filled with water. It was a third party who asked about the child, prompting Burbridge and Nettles to check on the child.

They found the infant face down and unresponsive in the bathtub. The child drowned.

“There is absolutely no justification for leaving an infant unattended near water – under any circumstances,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. “This child’s death was not just a tragedy; it was entirely preventable and should never have happened.”

Burbridge and Nettles each face up to 17 years in prison.
