Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Melba Marsh sentenced Briasha Stroud to 10 to 15 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to attempted murder for shooting her 12-year-old son in a failed murder-suicide attempt.

“This was an unimaginable act of violence against a defenseless child,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich said. “No sentence can undo the devastating injuries this young victim has endured, but today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of this horrific crime. Our thoughts remain with the victim and everyone who continues to support him.”

Pillich also thanked the foster mother caring for the child, as well as the numerous Hamilton County Job and Family Services workers who have provided continued care to the victim.

On Jan. 26, 2025, Stroud, 30, shot her son in the head while the two were inside a vehicle parked in a Deer Park garage. Stroud then shot herself in the chest. Both Stroud and her son survived, but the child suffered catastrophic, life-altering injuries and continues to face ongoing medical challenges.
