Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich comments on Christmas Day shooting in West End
James Brown, 58, of the West End, was arraigned Thursday on charges related to the Christmas Day shooting of his former girlfriend and her two children.
Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Virginia Tallent continued bond at $900,000 on six charges of felonious assault and a charge of weapons under disability.
“This was a deliberate and terrifying act of domestic violence that escalated into a public shooting,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. “This case underscores the very real danger posed when domestic disputes turn violent and spill into our community. We are committed to holding the defendant fully accountable and will seek justice for the victim and her family.”
Early the morning of Dec. 25, Brown went to the victim’s home and began kicking on the door. A relative of the victim diffused the situation and Brown left. The woman and her relative then left to go pick up her children. When they arrived back home Brown was waiting for them. They drove away to avoid Brown, but Brown followed them. When the woman stopped on Central Avenue in the West End, Brown approached the car and shot the woman and the two children, ages 10 and 15.
Brown fled but was arrested later that day. He was indicted on Jan. 2.
Brown faces up to 49 years in prison.
